I’m thrilled to be hosting a free monthly morning reading series for parents/caregivers at the very cool new Oakland community space, Local Economy!
Modeled off my friend Nicole Haroutunian’s series in Queens, Storytime for Caregivers invites parents and caregivers to bring babies and toddlers along to a morning reading–but in a new twist, the books are for the grown-ups! Each month I’ll be in conversation with a writer of fiction or nonfiction with a caregiving theme. They’ll read briefly, we’ll all chat, and they’ll end with a book for the younger crowd. After the one-hour event, we’ll have time for an IRL hang-out: a goal of this series!
The first event will be on Wednesday, October 15 at 11:00am with Elissa Strauss, author of the essential When You Care: The Unexpected Magic of Caring for Others. RSVP for free (spots going fast!) here.
Upcoming:
November (date TBA): Ruth Whippman, author of Boymom: Reimagining Boyhood in the Age of Impossible Masculinity
If you’ve written a book with a parenting/caregiving theme and are interesting in participating in the series, please reach out!
