I’m thrilled to be hosting a FREE monthly morning reading series for parents/caregivers at the very cool new Oakland community space, Local Economy!

Modeled off my friend Nicole Haroutunian’s series in Queens, Storytime for Caregivers invites parents and caregivers to bring babies and toddlers along to a morning reading–but in a new twist, the books are for the adults! Each month I’ll be in conversation with a writer of fiction or nonfiction with a caregiving theme. They’ll read briefly, we’ll all chat, and they’ll end with a book for the younger crowd. After the one-hour event, we’ll have time for an IRL hang-out: a goal of this series!

Babies absolutely welcomed but not required.

Tuesday, March 17, 2026. 10:00-11:00: This month we’ll be switching it up and discussing caregiving for elders. With guest Courtney Martin, author of Learning in Public, we’ll chat about sandwich generation caregiving: how Courtney is caring at once for kids and a parent with dementia. While Courtney’s book about sending her daughters to their neighborhood public school is an excellent read, this conversation will focus on Courtney’s recent online writing on caregiving. All ages welcome at this free event, including babies!

A sampling of Courtney’s work to read or listen to before we meet:
