i am a master of spunkiness

Last week Molly and I were talking blog posts. She asked if I ever worried, when writing my essayists posts, that the writers might visit my blog and read what I’d written. She said she’d once written about a craft book, and the author had shown up and commented on it. (Luckily, what she’d written had been positive.)

“Nah,” I said. I don’t think the likes of Annie Dillard, Adam Gopnik and Joan Didion bother poking around on piddly blogs like mine.

Maybe I shouldn’t have been so sure. Remember how I posted this picture the other day, and praised Spunk and Bite? One guess as to what happened.

spunk & bite

Go ahead and click on the photo, which will take you to my flickr page. Read the comment below the photo. But promise you’ll come back.

Isn’t that fun?

Isn’t that terrifying?

What if Pico Iyer shows up and sees how I’ve been ribbing him? (After a whole post of lavishing, mind you.) What if the guy from Dead or Alive drops by and reads the comments on the spinner post and discovers how I’ve compared him to the child catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?

Oh dear. I never thought I’d say this, but I’m glad M.F.K. Fisher is dead. So I won’t gnaw my nails to the nubs as I write her essayist post in a few days.

I suppose there’s only one thing I can do if more famous folks mosey on over. I will simply take a deep breath and muster all my spunkiness.

We’re off for a few days of camping with our homeschooling buddies. Let me know if I should eat a s’more for you. See you next week.

That is fantastic. You are a master of spunkiness. 🙂 Hey, have a s’more for me. Wish I could be there. One of these years…

It would be so nice to have you camp with us. Maybe in May…

    Funny!
I am looking forward to your Otto song. I can’t wait to hear it. I got your comment. I think his nickname is sticking forever. I can tell who reads my blog in our family!
Have a fun time camping, is it still warm there? Not that it matters.. down sleeping bags and campfires make for the best sleep!

My friend Kristin, who left a comment below, is the other Otto mama. I left her Otto song lyrics as a comment on your Toot post.

The weather is finally changing here. The camping trip was “California cold”. So, not very. But we did have a pretty nasty wind storm our last night.

Brushes with greatness! You are a master of Spunkocity! Nice!

Recently Dr. Richard Ferber himself commented on my sister’s blog post about sleep training the twins. I know, right!?! http://thebowlings.net/famblog/?p=1023 Check the comments!

As someone who works with lots of authors, I can tell you, the obsessively Google their titles to see who is writing about them. (And then they wonder why they are all ALWAYS “on hellish deadline”).

Hey sweetness! I guess I should have figured that authors google themselves.

The Ferber comment must have surprised the heck out of Abi! You didn’t mention that your dad was his friend in college. Of course, Ferber wouldn’t have known that without googling on over to Abi’s site and reading the post…

Time for another Farmer’s Market ramble!

a blog friend of mine once received a comment from tony bennett on a post she wrote about his art book. there are some super internet savvy authors out there – and that is why i don’t always read and tell 🙂 congratulations on your spunk!

as for the smores, i prefer just the marshmallow, slowly toasted to a light golden brown. have fun camping!

Tony Bennett? Oh my gosh, that’s crazy. The good news is that I tend to focus on the positive when I discuss these writers, so if they come, I can just smile sheepishly.

I like my marshmallows just like you do. I knew we were kindred.

Comments have an upside to them too! We can count on yours to be positive and witty.

I do like comments. Having little conversations after the post is even more fun than posting, to me. (I think I saw that yours were turned back on. Yay!)

It is a little terrifying. I just shared my blog with my better half and he said to me, “now I know what you’re always doing!” Yikes.
